2nd Annual Nautical Festival and Flea Market
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2012

There's something for everyone at this community sailabration!

Nestled on the Eastern Shore, the Town of Oxford, Maryland is tiny, family-friendly, and oh-so-serene ... except when it's hosting one of its signature community events. Then the town is bustling, creating a destination experience loaded with history, heritage, charm, and entertainment.

And there's no better time for a visit than the summer months, when Oxford's nautical nature is on full display for sailors and landlubbers alike. There are a variety of thrilling races and regattas throughout the season ... not to mention that the town has been named one of the Top 50 Waterfront Towns in the World by readers of Yachting Magazine ... and the Oxford Business Association is back with its second annual Port of Oxford Nautical Festival and Flea Market.

A spectacular success the first time out, the all-day event will once again be staged on the grounds of the Town Soccer Field, on Saturday, September 1, 2012. The flea market will host businesses, non-profit organizations, and private residents selling all manner of nautically-themed items: arts and crafts, boats, new and used marine parts, fishing gear, dock accessories, clothing, and even marine services.

In addition to the market, festival-goers will enjoy the offerings of food vendors; marine exhibits and displays; and live entertainment. The event, chaired by Elliott Anderson of Hinckley Yachts, "is just another great example of Oxford's maritime tradition."

Visitors would do well to make it a weekend of tradition by spending Friday and Saturday nights enjoying the hospitality of a B&B or transient slip at one of the town's eight boatyard-marinas, then Sunday lounging in the shady town park on the banks of the Tred Avon River; visiting the Treasure Chest, a visitors center and gift shop featuring local and artisanal treasures; having a ride on the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry; biking down the sun-dappled streets; and savoring a treat from the Highland Creamery after dining at one of several fine local restaurants.

The sights and stories of this little town with a long history and an even bigger heart - not to mention cultural offerings, recreational opportunities, and fine lodging and dining options - promise to entertain the whole family any season of the year ... but never with a better backdrop than the many sails of summertime.
